A Little More Mother

It's a great day on the porch, spitting cherry seeds almost to the feet of the quaking aspens, feeling the warm breath of July. A few years ago the kids and I got our mom a cherry orchard for Mother's Day. Actually, it's three trees, and this year the branches are so heavy with cherries that there are enough for us and the robins, too.

A number of things have interrupted the flow of this work--mainly teaching a Broadway camp to kids ("Broadway" is a magic word. It sells things. I'm not sure we mentioned that particular strip of asphalt during the week of instruction, but it brought in the kids, and we were all happy to be together--wonderful kids, some astonishing talent). This is the first work day after it all. And this is the balance (maybe the final) of the "Mother of Oceans" song below.

Mother of mountains, awesome and proud,
Mother of thunder, Mother of rain,
Mother of hope and the song in the grain,

It's a sentence! I didn't think it was going to be. Let me see what I can do with "Dumb As a Hammer."
